The aerodynamic performances are one of the key technical indexes of the special-shaped cavity mufflers. Taking a kind of muffler with insert-separators as the research object, the effects of the position, the hole, the hole area and the number of the partition on the pressure loss are studied with simulation using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). It was found that there was a close relationship among the diaphragm position, baffle hole and its structure with the pressure loss of muffler: the larger the hole area, the smaller was the pressure loss. Under the case of hole position relative to each other, the muffler pressure loss was increased by 2~3 kPa for each additional spacer. Finally, the cause of pressure loss is analyzed by combining the contours of velocity magnitude. The research results provide a reference for the design of the irregular cavity mufflers.
